I Believe

Both Griffin and I are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Being members of the LDS church (or Mormons) is a big part of our everyday life. We attend church on Sunday’s as well as practice our faith throughout the week. On my blog I share my beliefs as well as things that can help you draw closer to God as well.  Below is my testimony of the gospel.

(Griffin and I met while serving our missions in Southern California)

I grew up a Mormon. And for a long time I didn’t realize that there were any other religions or different beliefs. I loved going to church and learning about God and Jesus. As I got older though, and learned more about the world,  I recognized that I needed to know for myself if this was something that was true, and something that I wanted to believe in.  High school wasn’t the easiest for me, and near the end of my senior year, I was really struggling. Was there a God? If there was, why were all these bad things happening to me? Why did I feel stuck in an abusive situation? Why did I feel so alone? That year I decided instead of blaming God for my problems, I would turn to Him to find answers.

I spent countless hours reading the scriptures and praying. I prayed to feel His love, and I did. I prayed for answers, and I got them. The trials and heartache didn’t automatically go away, but I felt God’s presence in my life, and that was what I needed.  Because of my personal conversion, of finding that God really is there and that the Savior was able to heal me, I decided to serve a mission.

Young adults in our church are invited to serve missions. A mission is a volunteer opportunity (18-24 months) of service. We submit our ‘papers’ and wait for our call. We don’t get to pick where we will go. I got called to serve in Southern California. Where I went for 18 months to teach people in that area about Jesus Christ and His gospel. It was an incredible experience of growth and learning.

Since being home I still strive daily to come close to Christ. I read from the Bible and the Book of Mormon (another testament of Jesus Christ) to learn of Him. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior. Because of His Atonement, I can become clean from my sins and healed from the pain inflicted by others. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that He loves us. And because of that love, He has again called Prophets to lead and guide all of us on the Earth today! What an amazing blessing this is!

God is real. We are His children. He loves us! This gospel has given me so much joy and HOPE. It is the greatest blessing in our lives.
